Things to Do in Northeast Florida
Northeast Florida is a fantastic place to vacation for so many reasons. There is so much history in the area.
Visit St. Augustine and walk through the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the continental U.S. The city boasts gorgeous 17th century architecture as well as Castillo de San Marcos, which was built by the Spanish and is over 300 years old. Visit Old Town to experience the Colonial Quarter and see how the Spanish and English settlers cohabitated as St. Augustine was being developed. You can also visit St. Augustine's Old Jail, which operated from 1891 to 1953.
Another great historic location to visit in the area is the fishing village of Mayport and Fort George Island. The village of Mayport boasts a lighthouse built in 1859 as well as the 3rd largest Naval facility in the country. And, you can also visit Fort George Island Cultural State Park, which has been occupied by different communities for over 5,000 years.
Amelia Island is another excellent choice when visiting Northwest Florida. If you enjoy fishing, you can surf fish in the area or you can visit the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier and cast away. The island is also great for family fun, offering paddle boarding, excellent bird watching, sophisticated shopping and great restaurants.
